Shivarudrappa, has made history by becoming the first Indian woman and the first non-white woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean solo in the world’s toughest rowing race. She embarked on this challenging journey from La Gomera, near Spain, on December 12 and successfully completed it on February 1. Covering an incredible 4,800 km in 52 days, 5 hours, and 44 minutes, she rowed nearly 50 miles daily. To prepare, she had a 25-foot boat specially built and learned boat repair. Her remarkable perseverance and determination have set a new benchmark in ocean rowing.

February 17th 2025 Current Affairs : Meghalaya has been granted the right to host the 39th edition of the National Games, as confirmed by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on February 10. Scheduled for February or March 2027, the event follows the 38th National Games, which began in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, on February 14. Chief Minister Sangma attended the flag-off ceremony for Meghalaya’s delegation alongside key officials. Since 2018, Meghalaya has expanded its sports infrastructure from a single facility to over 200 projects, investing ₹20 crore to nurture 24,500 young athletes. The vision is to produce Olympians by 2032.
