1) ಕೇರಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರೂಸೆಲೋಸಿಸ್: ಇದು ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕವಾಗಿ ಜಾನುವಾರುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುವ ಸೋಂಕು.

ಬ್ರೂಸೆಲ್ಲೋಸಿಸ್ ಎಂಬುದು ಬ್ರೂಸೆಲ್ಲಾ ಜಾತಿಯಿಂದ ಉಂಟಾಗುವ ಬ್ಯಾಕ್ಟೀರಿಯಾದ ಸೋಂಕು, ಇದು ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕವಾಗಿ ಜಾನುವಾರುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ ಆದರೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಅಪಾಯವನ್ನುಂಟುಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗಷ್ಟೇ ಕೇರಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಟು ವರ್ಷದ ಬಾಲಕಿಯ ಸಾವಿನ ನಂತರ ಈ ರೋಗ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಇದರ ಅಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸಿದೆ. ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಪಾಶ್ಚರೀಕರಿಸದ ಡೈರಿ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಅಥವಾ ದನ, ಆಡುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕುರಿಗಳಂತಹ ಸೋಂಕಿತ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ನೇರ ಸಂಪರ್ಕದ ಮೂಲಕ ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಬ್ರೂಸೆಲೋಸಿಸ್ ಅನ್ನು ಸಂಕುಚಿತಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ರೋಗಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳು ಜ್ವರ, ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯ, ತೂಕ ನಷ್ಟ ಮತ್ತು ಆಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ, ಇದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ತಪ್ಪು ರೋಗನಿರ್ಣಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಾವು ಕಾಲಾವಧಿಯು ಒಂದು ವಾರದಿಂದ ಎರಡು ತಿಂಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಅಪಾಯದ ಗುಂಪುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರೈತರು, ಕಟುಕರು, ಪಶುವೈದ್ಯರು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಕಲುಷಿತ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವ ಲ್ಯಾಬ್ ಕೆಲಸಗಾರರು ಸೇರಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Recently, the disease was detected in Kerala following the death of an eight-year-old girl, highlighting its dangers. Humans contract Brucellosis mainly through unpasteurized dairy products or direct contact with infected animals like cattle, goats, and sheep. Symptoms include fever, weakness, weight loss, and fatigue, often leading to misdiagnosis. The incubation period ranges from one week to two months. High-risk groups include farmers, butchers, veterinarians, and lab workers who handle animals or contaminated products.

The Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has played a crucial role in this growth through financial assistance and export promotion programs. Under the Agriculture and Processed Food Export Promotion Scheme, APEDA supports packhouse development, cold storage, and quality control measures like hot water immersion and irradiation. Additionally, APEDA funds laboratory testing equipment and farm-level data monitoring to meet international safety standards, ensuring continued export growth.

The central government has launched many schemes to increase coconut production and combat crop diseases. Extensive research in collaboration with agricultural universities and institutions like the Coconut Development Board aims to address these challenges. Karnataka has now overtaken Kerala to become the top coconut producing state in India, producing 595 crore coconuts in 2022-23. Tumkur district in Karnataka is a major coconut hub, home to Asia’s largest coconut market at Tiptur, which contributes significantly to the country’s growing coconut production.
