November 13th 2024 Current Affairs : The 2024 World Climate Conference (COP29), organized by the United Nations, began on November 12 in Baku, Azerbaijan. While India has opted out of the World Leaders’ Climate Action Summit (WLCAS), it will actively engage in the World Climate Summit. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has welcomed global leaders to the high-level opening segment, with 82 heads of state and representatives participating from November 12-13. This initial phase will focus on critical climate discussions, including national strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and revenue-sharing mechanisms for climate action. India’s Minister of State for Environment, Kirtivardhan Singh, will lead a 19-member delegation in the second high-level summit on November 19-20.

This marks the first Indian Prime Ministerial visit to Nigeria in 17 years, where Modi, invited by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will stay from November 16-17. He will then attend the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 18-19, hosted by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva under the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.” The tour concludes in Guyana, where Modi will join the CARICOM-India Summit in Georgetown, strengthening ties with Caribbean nations at the invitation of President Mohammad Irfan Ali.
